Business Mastermind Feature: Lindsey Kirk, The Ladysmith
Curious to connect with women business owners, world changers, and boss babes?
Our brand new Business Mastermind series features women business owners who are raising the tide for all of us.
Building a successful business goes way beyond publishing a website and posting on social media. More than strictly profits, “business success” means building a lifestyle of freedom (as you’ll hear about from Lindsey the Ladysmith), having strong fulfilling connections, and creating purposeful work through entrepreneurship.
After all, growing into the person capable of running a business and living life on your terms isn’t about what you do as much as it’s about the people you impact.
This Business Mastermind Feature Series spotlights women in the Founding Females® women’s mastermind group so we can create a tighter web where women-led businesses uplift one another.
The women business owners you’ll meet in this series bring value to the community of women in unique ways. I’m delighted to share their growth and success with you!
First, let’s cover one big question: What is a women’s business mastermind?
What is the Founding Females® Women’s Business Mastermind?
The Founding Females® women business mastermind is a female entrepreneur online space where members connect daily with the community.
Inside is a buzzing conversation about business topics that really matter to small business owners, like effective marketing, work/life balance, how to create life-giving processes, and personal development tips that translate into mindset growth.
Each month, members have access to a transformative one-hour mastermind call where members show up to share their business wisdom on a certain topic.
For example, this month, we got clear about building a marketing strategy, and next month we’ll talk about how to create flow in your business with effective processes.
Mastermind calls are a way for women business owners to link arms and pour into each other so everyone in the community feels the positive growth.
Community Over Competition
The Mastermind is a non-judgemental space for women to connect over wins and challenges with other success-minded women. In fact, we start each Mastermind call by sharing recent wins. It normalizes aiming for big goals and opens up the dialogue about how to do it.
Society tells us if we share wins, we’re bragging, but that’s not how it works inside the Mastermind.
Instead, inside the Mastermind, members often share wins not because they’re bragging, but because they want to empower other women with specialized knowledge. And of course, there’s lots of celebrating inside.
Women in the community understand what it’s like to run a business and exchange support and feedback that actually make a difference in how you run your business.
We’re a collective of energized business owners who know there’s enough success to go around.
I.e. We can share specialized knowledge openly knowing that iron sharpens iron and success in the women business community will only make us stronger.
We have willing hearts to guide and support each other through challenging and rewarding seasons of business.
Women’s Mastermind Group Feature
Let’s get to it! The next Business Mastermind Feature is Lindsey Kirk…and you’re going to love her! Her customers know her as “Lindsey the Ladysmith.”
FF: Lindsey, please introduce us to ‘Lindsey the Ladysmith.’
Lindsey: Lindsey the Ladysmith uses underdog materials and ancient techniques like sandcasting, broomstraw casting, Tiffany metalwork, and scratch fabrication to create beautiful mystical amulets and jewelry featuring handpicked natural gems and artistic metalwork.
Each piece is created with the utmost intention, drawing from the stones' legend and lore, seesawing simplicity and intricacy in the metalwork to compliment the gems. Every item that comes out of the studio is entirely handcrafted and one of a kind.
FF: Tell us about how your business came to be.
Lindsey: My roots are in jewelry, selling friendship bracelets on the playground as a kid. Though I explored a million creative endeavors on my way to adulthood, I couldn’t stop creating with my hands and fell back into crafting jewelry.
It was 2011 when I decided I needed to commit to something or move on, so I went to school for jewelry design and metalsmithing and really took my skills to the next level.
When I graduated, my mom and I opened an art shop, sharing space to sell my jewelry and her art. We had that for five years before closing our doors just before the pandemic.
From there, I went solo, started my website and went hard on in-person events. Eventually I needed a new car, and traded in my very first car for a car I could sell jewelry out of the back of.
Now here I am, selling online and out of the back of my car and still winning “Reader’s Choice Awards 2nd Best Jewelry Store in Decatur”, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
FF: Who do you love working with and helping?
Lindsey: I love a lady with a good sense of humor, a little snark, and an appreciation for one of a kind beautiful things with flaws and fine details.
FF: How would you describe your own personal growth journey through entrepreneurship?
Lindsey: From brick & mortar merchandising, overhead, and all the things that happen behind the curtains, to SEO and email marketing and social media, I’ve done so much at this point.
The amount of hats I’ve worn over the past decade has given me more experience than I could have ever had with just a business degree. I’ve tried it all and figured out what I love the most, and dropped the rest, keeping everything simple and beautiful.
Simplifying has allowed me time and space to nurture relationships with customers who have, quite frankly, become family. I have, with their help at times, learned that I’m worthy of whatever I desire.
I’m a mature and capable and responsible human. I’m a different person than I was when this all began. A better business owner, a better friend, a better person.
We’re in open enrollment! Be part of something special by joining Lindsey and the strong female founder community inside the Founding Females® Mastermind.
FF: Lindsey, tell us about your favorite business topics?
Lindsey: I love talking about ALL of it because I never get to talk about any of it.
FF: Why did you decide to join the Founding Females® Mastermind?
Lindsey: To make connections and friends and to network with and learn from others who have done it all before.
FF: What else should we know about you?
Lindsey: In 2022, my husband quit his job to go back to school for supply chain management. We were terrified. But that leap created the most beautiful year of my career.
2023 brought us a living, a small cushion of savings so our car incidents wouldn't sink us (it was a weird year for our vehicles), and even allowed me to donate $3,000 to 2 local dog rescues to save the lives of deserving furry friends.
I grew up thinking success was wealth and riches and a big house and sparkly things. But now I think success can be simple. And I think I've become successful.
FF: Let’s get connected! Share with us where you’re spending time.
